Kim Woo-sang, the former professor at Yonsei's Department of Political Science and International Studies, is selected as one of the 'best ambassadors' by 'AFR Magazine,' a major monthly magazine published by Australian Financial Review. According to the internet edition of AFR Magazine for August 23, Ambassador Kim is nominated among "the twelve best ambassadors in Canberra" along with ambassadors from China, Mexico, India, Singapore, Mongolia and other countries. Ambassador Kim was mentioned as "a newly appointed ambassador who uses skillful diplomacy with his academic background" and "one of the few ambassadors who can freely meet the Prime Minister Kevin Rudd or the Minister for Foreign Affairs who are very hard to approach for other ambassadors. The former Yonsei professor Kim said, "I met almost every ambassador in Canberra when I was appointed as the Korean ambassador to Australia in May last year, and it became a news since it is not conventional nowadays." "It was very helpful for me to adapt myself to diplomacy as a newly appointed ambassador during the process," he added. It is reported that the ambassadors from small nations are giving active support with gratitude to Ambassador Kim who showed respect to them. Ambassador Kim is also active in 'lecture diplomacy' at various universities and research institutions, with his former career as a professor at Yonsei's Department of Political Science and International Studies. He said, "There was even a case where the president of one university that I went to give a lecture created a scholarship named 'Korean Ambassador Scholarship' to send a student to Korea." Kim Woo-sang served as a member of consulting group for diplomacy and national security for the current President Lee Myung-bak before he was elected. He also served as an advisory board member of diplomacy and national security in President Lee's transition committee, and visited USA as a special envoy of President-elect in January 2008.
