[YONSEI NEWS] Yonsei University Ranked Top Private University in Korea by JoongAng Ilbo

High Scores for Inbound Globalization, Publication of Articles in International Journals, and Research Funds Yonsei University reaffirmed its place as the top private university in Korea in domestic university rankings. According to the JoongAng Ilbo 2008 University Evaluation published on September 29, Yonsei University received high scores in globalization and broke last year’s tie with Korea University. Yonsei ranked fourth in the comprehensive ranking and second among universities with medical schools, coming in after Seoul National University. Yonsei University has focused on inbound globalization rather than outbound globalization. The number of international exchange students during the Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 semesters added up to 1,580 students, 4.3 percent of the entire Yonsei student population. Yonsei scored 19 out of 70 for globalization, 51 out of 170 for faculty research, and 38 out of 100 for educational environment. Yonsei’s strength’s were demonstrated in the departmental evaluation, too, with highest scores for life science, an area with great potential for the future. The score for faculty patents was 16.93, the highest in Korea. Also, the number of citations in SCI-level journals per faculty member was 6.38, another high mark.
