First Hydrogen Station in Korea Completes Construction on Campus Yonsei now officially houses the first Center Of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Research in Korea. As part of the national effort to make a world fueled by hydrogen a reality, GS Caltex is promoting a Hydrogen Station Project and has chosen Yonsei to spearhead the research on its Shinchon Campus. A hydrogen station allows drivers to charge cars equipped with hydrogen fuel cells, much like gasoline or LP gas is refueled at gas stations. A hydrogen station was constructed on campus with funding made available by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE), in a joint effort by GS Caltex and Yonsei’s Hydrogen Fuel Cell Team (Director Hyun Sang-hoon) and Chemical Engineering Technician Team (Director Seol Yong-gun). A ceremony celebrating the completion of the hydrogen station was held on September 13, with University President Jung Chang-Young, Minister Kim Young Ju of the MOCIE, CEO Hur Dong-Soo and President Myung Young-sik of GS Caltex, and Director Hong Seong-Ahn of the National RD&D Organization for Hydrogen & Fuel Cell in. As part of the celebrations, researchers of the Center demonstrated hydrogen car recharging and conducted a tour of the hydrogen station. With the construction of this station, Yonsei is expected to lead the research into the field of hydrogen fuel cells, and ultimately make it possible for Korea to procure energy sources independently.
