On March 26, 62 students from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University visited Yonsei as part of their Korea-Japan trip, the purpose of which was to learn more about the history, politics, and economy of the two countries. The students’ schedule included an interview with former President Kim Dae-jung at the Kim Dae-jung Presidential Library and a special lecture by Professor Moon Chung-in of the department of Political Science and International Studies on the subject of “Understanding the North Korean Nuclear Issue.” Kennedy students also engaged in a formal debate with representatives of Yonsei University’s Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS). Four students each from GSIS and the Kennedy School participated in the debate and covered subjects ranging from the Korea-U.S. alliance to the North Korean nuclear issue. After their visit to Yonsei, the Kennedy students toured the JSA (Joint Security Area) at the North-South border, SK Telecom (Korea’s leading telecommunications company), and Chosunilbo (one of Korea’s major daily newspapers). They also met Mayor Oh Se-hoon of Seoul and singer Rain, who is well-known as part of the international Korean Wave. The Kennedy School delegation left for Japan on March 28.
