Yonsei Leadership Center invited Tzipi Livni, Israel’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs for the 40th Special Leadership Lecture, which was given on January 16th with the title, “Israel and Recent Development in the Middle East.” Observing that “the final solution to the problem between Israel and Palestine is for them to establish their own nations and to coexist,” Vice Prime Minister Livni also indicated two different ways that Palestine can choose to go. One way is to choose the Hamas government and thereby forego acknowledgement by the international society. The other way is to support the coexistence of Mahmoud Abbas’ Palestinian Authority (PA) and Hamas. She also asserted that “For Hamas to be legitimately acknowledged as a government, it should meet all three requirements: eradicate terrorism, admit Israel’s existence, and fulfill all existing pacts between the two.” 400 students and professors came to Livni’s lecture, and various questions were asked by the students, reflecting our high interest in peace in the Middle-East.
