Inaugural Ceremony for Yonsei Institute of Sports Science and Exercise Medicine

—Named IOC Research Center for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health

On September 24, Dr. Richard Budgett, Medical and Scientific Director for the International Olympic Committee (IOC), visited Yonsei to present an official plaque to the Yonsei Institute of Sports Science and Exercise Medicine (YISSEM). YISSEM was established in March 2015, following the announcement that Yonsei would be home to an IOC Research Center for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health; the institute is jointly run by the College of Physical Education Integrated Sports Science Institute and the Wonju College of Medicine.

YISSEM will be funded by the IOC between 2105 and 2018, and, during that time, it will actively conduct research dealing with the prevention of various types of sports injuries. The institute will also coordinate and collaborate with researchers from around the world to make advancements in sports science. Yonsei is the only university in Asia home to such an IOC Research Center.
