Korean rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae (Sports Leisure ’13) became the first Korean to win a gold medal at the Asian Championships, taking home three from the 6th Asian Championships held this year at the Sport Palace in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She won her gold medals in the individual all-around, hoop (18.433), and clubs (18.400) competitions. She also garnered two silver medals, one in ribbon (18.167) and one in the team competition, earning a total of five medals. Son Yeon-jae’s performance at the Asian Championships demonstrated significant improvement in her skills, as well as her potential to compete with the best rhythmic gymnasts in the world. On June 15, she performed locally in a rhythm gymnastics gala show at Goyang Stadium, and this summer, she will compete in the Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia (July 6-17) and at the World Championships in Kiev, Ukraine (August 28-September 1).
