In the 2013 Asian University Rankings by the Chosun Ilbo and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Yonsei University was ranked 16th in Asia and 4th in Korea. For the second year in a row, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology placed 1st, followed by the National University of Singapore and the University of Hong Kong, which tied for 2nd. The top Korean institution, Seoul National University, placed 4th, while the top ten was rounded out by Peking University (5th), Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) (6th), Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (tied for 7th), the University of Tokyo (9th), and Kyoto University (10th). Yonsei received an overall score of 92.9 out of 100, which was two points higher than last year. According to the scores, Yonsei demonstrated strengths in the following areas: Academic Reputation (98.4), Employer Reputation (98.1), Faculty Student (95.8), Citations per Paper (94.7), Inbound Exchange Students (99.8), and Outbound Exchange Students (90.4). Despite the improvement from last year, Yonsei was relatively weak in the categories of International Faculty (35.5) and International Students (83.9). Compared to the 2012 rankings, the score for Papers per Faculty also dropped from 63.0 to 54.7, underscoring the need for greater productivity in research and publication.
