Yonsei Volunteers Visit Jilin Province in China for Construction Work
In August, twenty-five Yonsei student volunteers went to Aeshimwon in Yanbian Jilin Province, China to participate in a construction project. The students worked to prepare the foundation for the site, breaking through the topsoil and filling in holes with dirt. They also lent a hand transporting bricks and cement.
After the volunteer work was completed, the students visited the Duman River, near Baekdu Mountain, which is the birthplace of the poet Yoon Dong-ju. While there, they discussed Korean unification and listed to a lecture on Yoon’s poem “Stars.” They also summited Mt. Baekdu, enjoying the beauty of Lake Cheonji. In the words of one of the participants: “This was an unforgettable experience. I really enjoyed the team work of service leadership and the camaraderie with the other participants.”
