Yonsei University’s fundraising campaign is changing into smaller but regular donations. The small but regular donations can help a lot of students who have trouble with tuition. On May 7th, Yonsei University announced its decision to take part in the Blue Butterfly Fundraising Campaign. The campaign was initiated in 2009 at a Yonseians’ Night for Business and Economics, an event organized by the Yonsei University Alumni Association of the College of Business and Economics. In its first week, the campaign raised 1.7 billion KRW. The butterfly analogy is drawn from the butterfly effect, where a small change at one place like the strokes of a butterfly’s wings in the Amazon can result in a large difference in another place or state such as a hurricane in Florida, the United States. The Blue Butterfly signifies that a 1,000 KRW per day can create a butterfly effect and cause a hurricane that can provide scholarships and financial support to all Yonsei students. Yonsei has expanded this campaign into one throughout the university. The Yonsei-wide Blue Butterfly Fundraising Campaign is a small donation program by which a miracle is brought about by 1,000 KRW per day from all participating alumni. Thirty alumni who donate 1,000 KRW each day for four years creates a four-year scholarship for one student. The campaign is constructing an online donation system in order to make the action more available and convenient. The practice of small sharing is a small but resonating experience.
