Korea’s First Open Health Research Network Launched

-Medical Industrialization to Accelerate through Convergence Research

Yonsei University Health System(YUHS) has created Korea’s first Health Research Network (Y-HRN), which allows its members convenient access to the medical research being conducted throughout Yonsei. Profiles of researchers and their research are available on Y-HRN, enabling users to share information and learn what research projects are being undertaken in the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Public Health, and related Yonsei departments.

Not only is the network expected to invigorate joint research within Yonsei, it is also intended to facilitate new networks with external partners. In particular, Y-HRN is meant to promote the research capacity of YUHS, both domestically and internationally, thereby attracting the interest of other research centers and companies in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical equipment. As such, Y-HRN is considered a focal point for driving medical industrialization and enhancing university-industry collaboration at Yonsei.

While providing a state-of-theart search engine for journal articles and research-related data, Y-HRN also allows researchers to easily communicate with one another. Moreover, i t provides detailed information on the current state of YUHS’s research infrastructure, which includes the Avison Biomedical Research Center, the Medical Research Center, and the Clinical Test Center. According to Professor Song Si-young, president of the Medical Research Center, “Y-HRN will invigorate research collaboration among the research institutes and hospitals within Yonsei, as well as with industry and external organizations in and outside of Korea. It will contribute not only to the growth of the convergence research ecosystem and medical industrialization, but also to the development of more active global collaborative research.”
