  Welcome to the course “Smart Device & Mobile Emerging Technologies” in Coursera (www.coursera.org), which is one of the four courses of the Coursera specialization program titled "Emerging Technologies: From Smartphones to IoT to Big Data." This course was designed to provide information on the start-of-the-art smartphone and smart watch technologies and components as well as the global market trends and future forecasts. The course is made up of 6 modules. The first module “Smart Device & Mobile Services Rankings & Products” focuses on the future trend of smart devices and mobile services based on rankings and a comprehensive market analysis of the global market share by country, smartphone venders, and global mobile subscription technology. The second module “Smart Devices” focuses on the core technology and components of the world’s most popular smartphones (i.e., Samsung Galaxy Note8 and Apple iPhone X) and smart watches (i.e., Samsung Gear S3 and the Apple Watch Series 3) with details on IP code protection and internal components, which include the camera, battery, CPUs, GPUs, chipsets, smart device sensors, GPS, A-GPS, display technology, and wireless charging technologies. The third module “Mobile Communications” focuses on the evolution of 1G through 4G mobile communications and core technologies of the corresponding mobile phones. In the fourth module “4G & 5G Mobile Technologies,” details on the 4G and 5G network architecture and core technologies are described. In the fifth module titled “Smartphone OSs,” the characteristics, architecture, and operations of the world dominating smartphone OSs (Operating Systems) iOS and Android are described. In the sixth and last module titled “Smartphone & Mobile Network Project,” projects that teach how to analyze the components of smartphones and check the mobile network are introduced. Consequently, this course will prepare you to be more successful in businesses strategic planning in the upcoming mobile smart device era. I cordially welcome you in to the world of advanced smart devices.
