Yongin Severance Hospital opened on March 1, 2020, and the outpatient medical services started on March 2.
The only university hospital in Yongin City, Yongin Severance Hospital is located in Jung-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It has thirteen floors above the ground level and four underground, and has a total of 708 beds. The hospital has thirty-three medical departments, and three specialized centers including the Cardiovascular Center, the Neurodegenerative Disease Center, and the Digital Medical Industry Center. A number of highly experienced medical personnel from the Severance Hospital, Sinchon and Gangnam Severance Hospital will be working at the Yongin Severance Hospital. It is expected that this will greatly improve the quality of medical services available for residents living in the southern part of Gyeonggi-do.
Yongin Severance Hospital offers state-of-the-art medical services as it shares the medical infrastructure available at the Sinchon-Gangnam-Yongin hospitals through the “one Severance” system. Also, it has inherited the reputation and medical technologies of the 136-year-old Yonsei University Health System. The Yongin Severance Hospital is equipped with safe and efficient medical systems which include, a rotation system of the best medical workforce in each department from the the branch hospitals, a hospitalist system with the introduction of the hospital medicine department, and 5G-based digital innovation.
Realizing a patient-centered smart hospital through digital innovation
Yongin Severance Hospital places immense importance on enabling advanced digital innovation to contribute to “patient safety and convenience.” This is aimed to ensure that digital innovation is not just a “cool technology” but a “warm medical innovation” for patients.
To achieve this, Yongin Severance Hospital is the first medical institution in the country that has established in-hospital communication networks through 5G technology. This enables the hospital to provide fast and accurate medical care services through advanced information and communications technology (ICT). The artificial intelligence (AI) based speech recognition system improves work efficiency and enables medical workforce to focus on patients.
Additionally, a “Real Time Location System (RTLS)” will be used to track the location of medical equipment, medical workers, and patients in the event of a viral infection or patient elopement. This allows the hospital to proactively prepare for such situations and to curtail the spread of infection. A system based on the “Integration & Response Space (IRS) solution” that regularly monitors patients’ clinical records will also be introduced to detect emergencies and respond appropriately.
Yongin Severance Hospital built a system infrastructure to create the perfect medical environment through the Digital Medical Industry Center - a specialized center. Researchers were assigned to this center, which is responsible for medical industry research and business, to digitize safety and convenience of patients, from the initial phase of building data infrastructure. The hospital intends to create a digitized organization to ensure the best medical care through accumulated research data and systems infrastructure.
Toward a hospital that offers “customer delight” by prioritizing patient safety and convenience
To ensure the safety of inpatients and improve the quality of medical services, the Department of Hospital Medicine has been established at the hospital. Accordingly, a hospitalist system has been established in all wards, under which hospitalists are responsible for managing the entire care process from outpatient care to surgery, and hospitalization of individual patients.
Yongin Severance Hospital also has a Cardiovascular Center and a Neurodegenerative Disease Center which offer multidisciplinary consultations and patient-tailored medical services. The centers also offer a Rapid Service Track (rapid care system) that enables patients with cancer to undergo surgery within a week of the first visit. This is an example of differentiated medical service.
