The Institute for Global Engagement and Empowerment (IGEE) at Yonsei University established a partnership with World Bank Group to pursue joint research for sustainable development.

On April 12, the World Bank Group announced its plans to collaborate with IGEE to conduct a joint study to help developing countries attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations member states to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. Focusing on Vietnam, Kazakhstan and Egypt, the joint research team aims to publish a report that will comprehensively diagnose the countries’ status of achieving the SDGs with an in-depth assessment of policies and institutions, and suggest policies that strengthen their ability to implement the global goals.

The research project will be supported by a $900,000 donation from the Korean Ministry of Strategy and Finance to the World Bank Group Partnership Fund for the Sustainable Development Goals (WBG SDG Fund) to develop sustainable energy, create quality jobs and strengthen welfare analysis frameworks in each country. South Korea is the second donor to join the SDG Fund following Sweden.

"We hope this collaboration will help South Korea boost ties and strengthen cooperation with Vietnam and Kazakhstan – two key nations of the South Korean government's New Southern Policy and New Northern Policy," said the research team.

Established in September 2017, the Institute for Global Engagement and Empowerment (IGEE) at Yonsei University contributes to building a sustainable future for humankind by encouraging social participation of universities under the leadership of Ban Ki-moon, the 8th Secretary General of the United Nations, as its honorary chairman. In addition to conducting research collaboration with the World Bank Group, IGEE strives to generate and disseminate knowledge and information for experts and the public by sharing insight online via the World Bank Blog and hosting the annual Global Engagement & Empowerment Forum on Sustainable Development (GEEF) on campus.
