Guidance on Joint Major Application for Fall Semester 2021



1. Application Period: June 21 (Mon) 9:00 - June 25 (Fri) 15:00, 2021


2. Application Method

A. Access Yonsei Portal Service (http://portal.yonsei.ac.kr/)

B. Select the joint major under 'Academic Information System
     →Academic Management System→Majors→Joint Major'

C. Submit an academic plan (including motive for application and an academic plan)

※ Write 500-2,000 bytes for each section.

※ If you cancel your application during the application period, the contents of the academic plan will be deleted.

※ Confirm the name of the major (department) before final submission.


3. Result Announcement: Scheduled at the end of July 2021

Check for the status under 'Academic Information System→Academic Management System→Majors→Joint Major'


4. Names of Joint Majors

Korean Studies, Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies, East Asian Studies, European Studies, American Studies, Digital Humanities, Foreign Affairs and Trade Studies, Cognitive Science, Venture Studies, Leadership, Comparative Literature, Cultural Theory and Criticism


5. Requirements for Application

A. Students whose first majors are declared (students on leaves can also apply)

B. Students who are entering class of '96 and onwards, upon completion of the third semester
     to the semester just before graduation (application is not allowed after graduation/completion
     of graduation requirements)

C. Cannot declare multiple joint majors, and when intended to change the approved joint major,
      students shall cancel the relevant major before the period of application is over in order to reapply
      for a joint major in the future

D. Cannot reapply for a canceled major again
      (the final cancellation period for a joint major is until the semester just before graduation)

E. Students entering class before ‘95, undergraduate transfer students, transferring military entrustment,
      and double majoring graduation candidates cannot apply.


6. Criteria for Approval

A. Evaluation based on the overall GPA (average of grades from all semesters) and the academic plan

B. If general transfer students in the junior year apply in their first semester
     (while attending the fifth semester), they are evaluated based on the grade of their first semester
